PHOENIX, AZ, UNITED STATES, August 18, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — A new record is waiting to be made! Deborah Gardner is preparing to conquer the treacherous 12.5-mile Santa Barbara Channel on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
After conquering the treacherous Catalina Channel and earning a GUINNESS WORLD RECORD, Deborah is back in the open water, chasing another extraordinary milestone and proving once again that DREAMS DON’T AGE!
This time, Deborah will become the FIRST person to swim from Anacapa Island to Oxnard, California, through rough currents, shipliners, oil rigs, and an aquarium of sea creatures, by swimming – BACKSTROKE. The theme for this swim is called SKYWARD67, which represents moving forward at the young age of 67 while only looking up at the sky throughout the entire swim.
Supported by a powerful support crew and dedicated sponsors, i.e., Red Equipment, Hammer Nutrition, Dare To Retire, Tin Can Timepieces, Sportkini, and others, Deborah Gardner is continuing a meaningful charity mission in honor of her 91-year-old father, Major Joedy Gardner (USMC Ret.).
As part of this effort, she is continuing to support SOUTHERN CROSS SERVICE DOGS, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing service dogs to veterans and helping reduce veteran suicide. “This swim is beyond my dream or for a record,” Deborah says. “It’s honoring my dad, veterans, and anyone who needs proof that dreams don’t age.”
